ADMISSIONS | OVERVIEW

Thank you for your interest in the International Section of the Korean International School (KIS).

KIS has rolling admissions and we accept applications all year round, placing new students throughout the year as spaces become available. Please read the following information before you complete your application form:

Step 1: Pre-Application Form
Before Applying

All applications are usually processed a year ahead of entry. (This includes those children with sibling priority).

Before applying, please ensure that you have the necessary documents prepared for submission:

Supporting documents:

  1. One passport-size photo of your child (uploaded to the form)
  2. Copies of school reports from the last two years (where applicable)
  3. ID document and passport copies of parents and students
  4. Student Reference Form :
As part of the review stage of the application process, a Student Reference Form will be sent directly to the applicant’s current school (for Year 7 to 13 applicants only). This confidential form, provides valuable insights into the applicant’s academic performance and character, aiding the admissions evaluation.

If you’re unable to provide any of these documents, please contact our Admissions Team at admissions@kis.edu.hk and we will work directly with you to best complete your application.

Age To Year Placement:

The International Section uses the following guidelines to place each applicant in the correct year:

Completing Pre-Application Form

We invite you to take a moment to fill out our brief pre-application form. By sharing this information, you’ll not only introduce yourself to our team but also receive valuable guidance and support as you navigate the next steps in our admissions process.

What happens next after the Pre-Application Form?

Once you complete the form, our KIS Admissions System (Veracross) will send you an email containing your username and a link to set up your Admissions Portal Account and Password. Please check both your inbox and spam folder, as it may take a few minutes for the email to arrive.

Step 2: Application Portal
Completing The Application

In the KIS Admissions Portal, you will be able to access everything to complete and support your application process, from managing your applications to finding out more about our school curriculum and news. We made everything as simple and accessible as possible and it is easy for you to contact the Admissions Department too if you have any questions.

You will be required to complete the application checklists, covering Parts A through G. These include Student Demographic Details, Medical and Health Questions, Parent Questionnaires etc. All “required” (orange) sections must say “completed” (green) before your application is considered complete and ready for review. This includes the application fee and declaration.

The applications are processed according to the date of the application and when all documents are received.

Application Fee

An application fee of HK$2,000 is an administrative fee that must be paid to initiate the application initial review process. The application fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.

Initial Review

Our Admissions Department reviews all completed applications (i.e. once Parts A through G are completed). We will contact you with the next steps once your application has been reviewed and is ready for an Assessment & Interview.

Waiting List

  • A student can be added to our waiting list only if they have submitted all required documents for the application process and an Application Fee has been paid.
  • KIS accepts applications year-round and operates a waitlist. However, we encourage applications to be submitted prior to the priority deadline for the best chance of being accepted at KIS. When a space becomes available, we select the applicant who will best fit into our school community, rather than considering how long he or she has been waiting for admission.
  • Waitlisted students are expected to continue their education while on the waitlist. We may ask the family to update academic transcripts and reports.
  • Priority on the waiting list is not determined on a first-come, first-served basis but on various criteria. The student who best meets the specified criteria will be invited for the interview/assessment and removed from the waiting list. This decision is made by the Admissions Department, and details will not be disclosed or discussed with prospective families.

Step 3: Internal Assessment & Interview
Booking Assessment

Upon successful initial review, our Admissions Department will contact you with available slots to sign up for the Intake Assessment & Interview.

Assessment Structure

The interview assessment will take approximately 1-hour and will be conducted on campus at KIS.

Step 4: Decison Offer & Waiting Pool
Evaluation Process

After completing the Intake Assessment, our Admissions Department will conduct a comprehensive review of your entire application.  This includes evaluating the student’s performance during the assessment and interview to make an informed decision about the admission.

Decision Notice

The Admission Department will contact you once there is an outcome of the evaluation process. Simply log into the KIS Admissions Portal to view your decision, where you’ll have the opportunity to accept or decline the offer.

Placement Offers

The Admissions Department will contact you to provide further information regarding different offers and related enrolment processes that will follow.

If we are not able to offer your child a place at that time, your child’s application will go into the Waiting Pool.

Waiting Pool:

  • If the applicant has completed all qualifications to be accepted to KIS. but the current ‘Year’ level has no vacancies, or if the applicant requires Learning Enhancement Services that are currently at capacity, the applicant will be placed on our waiting pool until an available space opens up.
  • The applicant may stay on the waiting pool for a period of Six Months from the date of notification.
The admissions department will notify you when a placement becomes available and your child will be invited for a reassessment. This will allow our teachers to reconfirm the specific type of support he/she will need, ensuring that we are able to cater for his/her individual needs effectively.
  • If you choose not to and would like to still enrol in KIS at a later date, you must go through the application process again.
  • The waiting pool does not operate on a first come first serve basis. There are specific criteria the admission team uses to decide which student will fill up an open spot. Such criteria include gender, sibling priority, nationality or learning enhancement needs.

Priority

Priority is given to siblings and therefore the position on the waiting list can change. Parents are encouraged to inform the Admissions Department: admissions@kis.edu.hk of any change in their information.

Note: The decision on Placement Offers and class allocations will be made by the Admissions Department and Senior Leadership Team.

Step 5: Enrollment Contract

If you choose to move forward and accept our offer, the next step is to visit our Enrollment Contract area. This is a straightforward process where you’ll review and agree to essential school policies and agreements. Completing this step is important to ensure a smooth start for your child on their first day at school.
