Principal’s Message

Dear KIS Parents & Guardians

As we approach the Lunar New Year holiday, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support with all the learning that has taken place this term, it has been a very full term, filled with projects, assessments, as well as a host of events and activities. We are proud of the progress your children have made, and we hope that they will continue to work hard in the upcoming term after the Lunar holiday.

Congratulations too to all those students who have taken internal examinations, these are excellent preparation for public examinations in the future and feedback will be forthcoming on successes and areas for development. Schools should be places of safety in which young people experience great personal development and growth, yet there is no denying that academic success for our young learners is one of our greatest ambitions. Students who learn to prepare well and who respond to Mock examination feedback place themselves in a strong position to succeed when public examinations are undertaken later. We have been reviewing the staffing structure in school to focus on supporting students, especially those in public examination years, to aim higher and focus their studies on areas of personal academic development to improve their attainment levels.

We are all looking forward to the Lunar New Year, and welcoming the Year of the Dragon. As a school we shall look to embody the virtues of the Dragon, including power, nobility, and of course success. We hope that you and your family have a wonderful time celebrating this holiday.

Please note that KIS will be closed to students on the following dates due to the holiday:

Friday 9^th February-Monday 19^th February with school reopening to students on Tuesday 20th February.

Highlights of The Month

Development Fund Donation Ceremony

On Tuesday 9th January 2024, we had our Development Fund Donation Ceremony and it was a momentous occasion, as Mr. Lee Soon Jung generously donated HK$1,000,000 to the school. The Korean Consul General for Education, Mr Yoo Hyungcheo, KIS Chairman, KIS Board Members and Principals of both International and Korean sections were in attendance at the Heritage Centre to receive this generous donation. This contribution will undoubtedly have a significant impact on the school’s development and will help to further enhance the educational experience for students.

International Section (IS) vs Korean Section (KS) – U11 Football & Basketball Matches

On Tuesday 16th January 2024 marked our first-ever fantastic friendly U11 football match between the Korean Section and International Section. The young players from both teams displayed great sportsmanship and skill on the field, making it an exciting and enjoyable game for everyone involved including the spectators of other students and teachers. The match was a testament to the growing passion for both sections’ youth football and provided a platform for cultural exchange and camaraderie among the players. The event exemplified the positive impact of sports in bringing communities together and fostering a spirit of unity and friendship.

Another first happened on Thursday 18th January 2024 with the first-ever U11 Basketball Friendly Match in the blue area between the Korean Section and the International Section. It was a fantastic display of young talent. Both sections of the school showcased their skills in a thrilling encounter. The match was a testament to the sportsmanship and ability of the young athletes from both teams.

Ndebele Art Workshop

There was a ‘Ndebele Art Workshop’ held for Year 1 and Reception students on Friday 19th January 2024. During the workshop, our young students were introduced to the vibrant and colourful Ndebele art tradition, which originates from the Southern Ndebele people of South Africa. The students learned about the history and significance of Ndebele art, including the brightly coloured mural paintings that adorn the exterior walls of homes and public spaces.

The students were guided through a step-by-step art project, where they created their own Ndebele designs using paint, crayons and paper.

This hands-on activity not only boosted their confidence and creativity but also allowed them to explore the hidden meanings behind the chosen colours and the beading and mural traditions of the Ndebele people. The workshop was a great success, as the students were engaged and excited about learning about African art and culture.

Big thank you to African Center Hong Kong for visiting the school and leading this brilliant workshop for our younger students!

Chinese New Year Rehearsals

Journey to the West Comes Alive!

Over the past two weeks, our talented Year 6 Chinese first language students have read some stories from the classic Chinese novel, “Journey to the West”《西遊記》. They have embarked on an incredible journey of transforming this beloved tale into an amazing drama. They collaborated with great enthusiasm, working together to craft engaging scripts, categorize costumes and props, and translate the scripts from Chinese to English. From the mischievous Monkey King to the wise Tang Monk, every aspect has been meticulously curated.

And guess what? The countdown has begun! As the students have started rehearsing their lines and perfecting their performances, they’re getting ready to dazzle the audience during our upcoming Chinese New Year. More to share in the next newsletter!  

Secondary Sports Day

Today’s Secondary Sports Day was a thrilling event where the Houses of Fire, Wind, Water, and Earth competed against each other in various activities. The day was filled with excitement and competitiveness as students participated in Basketball, Hockey, Speedball, and Volleyball matches.

The Secondary Sports Day was a fantastic opportunity for students to engage in friendly competition, showcase their sportsmanship, and build a sense of community. Well done everyone!
